for hospice patients, and did driving tours of Monroe for Costa Rican Exchange students. How did you get involved with Optimists? When I moved to the position of Marketing Director at Woodford State Bank, I wanted to get more involved in the community. I joined two and a half years ago – it’s a warm and friendly group. With weekly morning meetings, it’s a great way to network and start your day! The Optimists are known for their fund raisers selling deep fried cheese curds. What else are you cooking up this year? We’re working on a calendar to celebrate our 50 year anniversary. Our goal is to have it ready for 2020 to show 50 years activities of the club.

Earlier this year, the Monroe Optimist Clubs did a “Day of Service” with members volunteering with various organizations. This project celebrated the 100th day of the 100th year of Optimists International, so they set a goal of completing 100 service hours on this day. We talked about the day of service with club member Val Johnson, who teamed up to lead the project with Joe Snow and Lisa Hendrickson. Did you hit the goal? Exceeded it! We had 175 hours. Both the noon and the morning clubs were involved. What types of projects did members help with? Volunteers painted at Pleasant View Nursing Home, called BINGO for the Aging and Disability Resource Center, cleaned kennels and walked dogs at the Humane Society, donated 100 healthy snacks to the Monroe Youth Center, sorted donations at St. Vincent de Paul, worked with Junior Optimists to tie blankets
